Telling a timeless myth.

The client’s brief was to welcome the museum’s visitors with an opening video that recounted key moments in the history of chocolate.

The video had to be epic, with a legendary feel, and aimed at children and young adults in late elementary and middle school.

The story had to have the feel of legend.

Telling a timeless myth.

To meet Cicocomiti’s requests, we created a single-shot journey through the history of chocolate.

The idea is to travel through the stages of history, passing through different places and times.

Mystery, adventure, and legend were the elements that influenced the script, which was specifically conceived with an epic tone.

The shots are solemn, and the points of view always favor the adventurous tone of the story, especially in the opening section.

The character and setting design was carefully crafted to appeal to both older children, thanks to a language inspired by comics and graphic novels, and younger ones, taking advantage of the aspirational nature and simplicity of the forms.

The characters are clearly defined and recognizable, both in their shapes and their color palettes.
Across the various eras, the features are stylized but recognizable.

Since we’re talking about chocolate in a museum dedicated to this divine food, the entire video was designed with the colors of chocolate and cocoa in mind.

Where black would have been, we find the dark brown, typical of dark chocolate, while in the lighter shades, we find the classic color of white chocolate.

For this project, we were fortunate to have good timing. Fortunately, the client acted promptly, so we had time to do excellent pre-production and get to production with everything clear and set.

The video was created using the following programs: Adobe Photoshop for backgrounds and assets, Harmony Toon Boom for character animation, Blender for the 3D portion of the gallery, and Adobe After Effects for compositing and 2D animations.

We love limiting the number of colors in our work.
The video is made up of exterior and interior scenes, wide shots and more closed-in scenes, and very bright moments and darker sections.

In all these passages, the chosen palette was able to describe all the sensations the scenes needed to convey.

This project is one of those occasions where our client trusts us and gives us carte blanche.
Having the opportunity to develop the project from A to Z is our preferred scenario. We were able to write the story and direct the video as we wished.

We devised a direction and design that would be appreciated by the target audience but also loved by us.
We hope the museum will welcome many young chocolate lovers who will have the opportunity to discover the story behind the food of the Gods.
